If you build it, they will come
This is the story of my personal connection to the war in Israel. I grew up playing baseball in Northern Israel, on the field of dreams that Yehuda Beinin built with blood, sweat and tears. This is the field that has been hosting the Dave Lelchook memorial tournament since 2007 in honor of our fallen teammate from the Second Lebanon War. It is also the field on which for the past couple of years we developed a coexistence program where Arab and Jewish children played together on the diamond.
On October 7th, Liat, Yehuda’s daughter, was abducted from her home in a Kibbutz in Southern Israel together with Aviv, her husband.
In this talk we will discuss why, despite this horrible tragedy, we still believe there is hope for a peaceful coexistence, and how baseball can still bring diverse communities together on the field that Yehuda built
New Orleans - the Israeli-Jewish Connection
New Orleans is known as the birthplace of Jazz, a cultural melting pot and a destination for food, music and play. What is lesser known is its rich Jewish history.
Did you know that in the 18th Century, Louisiana had a law that prohibited Jews from settling in the colony? Did you know that the first Jewish New Orleanian “tourist” to the Land of Israel visited as early as the 19th Century. Did you know that a Jew from New Orleans helped save Jews after the Holocaust and brought them to Israel?

You will discover this and more in a colorful talk describing the development of music in New Orleans, the best places to enjoy music in the city, and the unique and diverse traditions of Mardi Gras.
